CELEBRATION OF FRIENDSHIP AND UNITY

After three months of bonding and competition, its time to celebrate.

Occidental and oriental are united once again.

In a venue full of people who share the same aspirations and dreams.

And to welcome and listen to their new King.

This is not the end but the beginning of greater things to happen for Batch 2008.

The Hari ng Negros Organization would like to thank Earl Richard Estoya of New Zealand for sponsoring the dinner and Edwin Casocot of Switzerland for the lechon.

Forever, Hari ng Negros.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Bodypainting is not easy. The models have to stand motionless for hours while enduring ticklish feelings from the tip of a paintbrush filled with paint enamel that is gently sliding on all parts of their body. Then the feeling you are being mummified as the paint dries and starts cracking on the skin.

Being part of Hari ng Negros, this is what the candidates had to endure. To have their bodies used as canvass. To continue forgotten traditions that was once part of Negrense culture and for the artists to renew their need for self expression.

MODEL DISCOVERY OF THE YEAR

He does not talk much, but just looking at him you can tell their is a lot in his mind. Kareem Capulso, Prince of Bayawan 2008 bagged the Model Discovery of the Year award last week during the Coronation Night of Hari ng Negros. Winning this award makes him automatically a talent of the prestigious Victo Rio Modeling Agency (www.victoriomodelingagency.com) based in Manila. He also won best in Print Ads.

Kareem is 18 years old, a psychology student and hails from one of the most well respected families in Negros. Armed with the loving support of his family, friends, loyal followers and the City of Bayawan, we have a feeling, one day Kareem will make it BIG. There is no other way for Kareem to go but up.

YOU SEXY THING

Not too long ago, two very statuesque and stunning beauties ramped their way inside the Canlaon City Sports and Cultural Center to judge Hari ng Negros. All eyes were focused on the two as they were escorted to their judges seat. Everyone was asking, "Who are they?" "Where did they come from?" "I've never seen such SEXY animals in my whole life!"

Well these sexy things are Rebecca Piket and Laury Prudent. Bec is already considered an adopted daughter of Canlaon having visited the City in the Sky twice. First, judging a Miss Canlaon then finally the Hari ng Negros. Take a look at them now.

REBECCA PIKET has actively been in the modeling/acting field for more than a decade. Her work in the international circuit covers countries such Singapore, Hong Kong, Fiji and the Philippines.

From 2000-2005, Rebecca was a regular in the Australian Fashion Week, and in the Singapore Fashion Week from 2000 to 2004. Her striking photos have appeared in various notable magazines, such as the Australian and Philippine FHM, Ralph, Inside Sport, Shades, Gear, Maxim, Elle and the Australian Vogue.

In 2005, Rebecca was the Australian representative to the International Supermodel Competition in China. Earlier, in 2003, she was named Face of Jim Beam in Australia, and was a finalist in the Australian Swimsuit Model of the Year search. Her television commercials include Nissan Noodles, Jim Beam, BMW, Australia’s Westfield Malls, and the Fashion TV (FTV) Model School – to name a few.

Rebecca also appeared in the Nautical Angels 2006 Underwater Calendar, which featured beautiful photos by noted underwater photographer Mick Gleissner. The Nautical Angels 2006 Underwater Calendar was FTV’s official calendar for the year.

Rebecca was featured in the box-office hits Superman Returns (2006), Matrix 3 (2003) and Moulin Rouge! (2001). Of late, she was in the television shows Home and Away, Neighbours, All Saints, the reality based show The Resort, and the American drama series shot in Sydney, Jag.

At the age of 11, Laury Prudent set out with sister Nionese to see a well known photographer in Miami, Florida. Though it was her sister who was scheduled for the photo shoot, another Prudent presence was also felt. Laury's beautiful Haitian features and vivacity caught the photographer's attention and he gave Laury her first taste in modeling.

Although the next years where spent on her education, Laury eventually returned to modeling at the age of 18. Over the next two years, Laury posed for photographers, walked the ramp in several fashion shows, did quite a number of print work and built a professional portfolio in the process.

In May 2004 Laury moved to New York to establish her name as a professional model and though she was a new kid on an almost impenetrable block, persistent Laury quickly scored work in with new designers and up and coming fashion magazines. After almost a year in the Big Apple, she took off for an offer to fly all over Europe, doing what she does best - working the runways.

THE IMPORTANCE OF ART

Last June 21, when typhoon Frank was battering the Visayan Islands, another storm was happening inside the Canlaon City Pension House. Inside the powerless venue, artists from all corners of Negros gathered their skills and energy and created a storm of creativeness, imagination and ingenuity. What transpired was beyond awe inspiring. It renewed our spirit for beauty. It gave us a reason to continue. But most of all it brought the importance of art back to our lives.

Presenting again, the 1st Hari ng Negros Body Painting Competition.

Special thanks again to Nui Caballes for leading the group of artists of Negros to Canlaon City despite the obstacles caused by Typhoon Frank.
