SO YOU WANT TO BE A HARI
Male pageants are still in their infancy stage and are still considered taboo compared to their female counterparts. With the full support of the City of Canlaon, Hari ng Negros is getting stronger and is approaching its 7th consecutive year. For the Philippines, this is definitely a milestone because male pageants are a "now you see it and now you don't" kind of activity.
There is really no secret on how to produce one. Its all in the commitment, dedication and initiative of the producers, organizers, artists, candidates and talent managers working together as one. A complete understanding and respect for each other is essential to make sure the show will be successful.
Hari ng Negros 2009 will be completely different from the previous. A renaissance of new and creative ideas has been injected to enhance the format and at the same time for the event to be more self sufficient.
As early as this month, potential candidates will be posted to give the organizers and the general public an idea on who these throne-seekers are. Pre-screening for Negros Occidental candidates will be held during the Christmas holiday season in Bacolod City. Same for the Negros Oriental candidates in Dumaguete City. By March, those who passed the pre-screening may then proceed to Canlaon City for the final screening and briefing.
Also, only accredited Talent Managers by the Hari ng Negros organization are allowed to handle candidates for 2009. Through the years, we have been lenient on the quality of tribal costumes, stage make up, barong design and other requirements set forth by the committee. Therefore we have selected those Talent Managers who have shown excellence in their craft and upheld the true quality of Negrense artistry and sportsmanship.
